╘HIS MODIFICATION INVOLVES A 4066 QUAD BI-LATERAL SWITCH CHIP. ╨OWER IS SUPPLIED, LIKE THE 7404 CHIP IN THE PREVIOUS FILES, BY THE +5 AND GROUND CONNECTORS ON THE MODEM/COMPUTER CONNECTOR. ╧NCE IN PLACE, WHEN EVER THE MODEM IS ON THE HOOK, THE SPEAKER IS ├╒╘ ╧╞╞! ╧NCE THE MODEM IS OFF THE HOOK, THE SPEAKER IS RE-INABLED UNTIL THE CARRIER IS DETECTED.
╞IRST, YOU REMOVE THE SPEAKER WIRE FROM THE ONE END OF THE RESISTOR, OR FROM THE SPEAKER, IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER. ╘HEN, AFTER YOU CONNECT THE 4066 CHIP TO POWER, YOU TAKE ONE OF THE LEFT OVER GATES FROM THE 7404 AND CONNECT THE INPUT OF THE CHOSEN GATE TO THE /╧╚ (OFF HOOK CONNECTOR). ├ONNECT THE OUTPUT TO THE ENABLE GATE OF ONE OF THE 4 SWITCHES, WHICH EVER ONE YOU CHOOSE. ╬OW SOLDER THE END YOU DISCONNECTED FROM THE SPEAKER TO ONE END OF THE SEMICONDUTOR SWITCH, EITHER END OF THE GATE WILL DO. ╘HEN SOLDER THE OTHER END OF THE SWITCH TO THE SPEAKER.
╘HEORY (AND PRACTICE) IS THAT WHEN THE MODEM IS ON THE HOOK, THE CONNECTOR IS AT +5 VOLTS. ╘HE INVERTER MAKES THIS 0 VOLTS AND KEEPS THE SWITCH OFF. ╧NCE TTHE MODEM GOES OFF THE HOOK, THE CONNECTOR GOES TO 0 VOLTS AND THE INVERTER GOES TO +5 VOLTS WHICH ENABLES THE SPEAKER. ╬OW YOU DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOUR FAVORITE GAMES THROUGH THAT LITTLE SPEAKER.
